Staying connected with BGS Libraries

BGS Libraries

The primary focus for BGS Libraries in 2020 was to build learning communities. This objective was put to the test early in the year as we moved our delivery of services and resources entirely online during distance learning. Our message to students and staff during this time was simple: the library is open.

To meet the needs of our library community remotely, we introduced Click & Collect: a pick-up and drop-off book borrowing service for students and staff. Our Library Committees also moved online, with regular meetings providing boys with the opportunity to check in with each other and continue sharing their literary interests.

BGS Libraries formed a partnership with Wellbeing to establish a Writing Prize in 2020. Boys from Years 7-12 were invited to submit a written piece responding to a current social or political issue. The standard of writing was impressive and the four prize winners demonstrated passion and conviction as they mediated on our chosen theme for 2020, hope.

Our major literary event of the year was BGS Book Week. Highlights included a Comic Book Illustration Masterclass with celebrated illustrator Campbell Whyte, a Writing Masterclass with award-winning author Holden Sheppard, and the daily photo/video Book Challenge.

We have enjoyed welcoming students and staff to BGS Libraries in 2021 for a new year of learning and literary programs, events and activities #BGSReadsTogether
